All about parcel delivery
Classic parcel flow organization
Operationally, cyclelogists have their parcels delivered by truck directly to their hub.
On receipt, they integrate the information transferred by the carriers into their Syke-type tour management software. This is done either by automatic transfer when there is an EDI link, or by integration of CSV files.
The operator ensures that all parcels and associated delivery notes are in place, before starting the dispatch process: preparing parcels for delivery. This sorting is done either directly in the parcel containers when there are several, or initially on storage racks.
Rounds can be made by carrier (when branding has been carried out) or, more usually, by mutualization (all parcels destined for the same recipient are delivered at the same time, regardless of the initial carrier).
Once on delivery, the operator is equipped with a PDA (personal digital assistant), which enables him to scan parcels, report any reservations and sign for customer receipt.
The logistics hub
Parcel management involves receiving goods, putting them away and sorting them again to organize future rounds.
By orienting order preparation towards pre-containerization, thanks to the use of micro-containers upstream of the last kilometer, Urbike has cut sorting time by 75% and reduced the cost of handling a parcel to 0.20€ (compared with 0.70 to 1€ estimated at the beginning of the period).
When it comes to temperature-controlled parcel management, Ayopa by Delanchy prepares its containers in the cold room at Rungis upon receipt of the palletized goods, then massages the arrival of the containers to the city in refrigerated trucks, which drop the containers off at the foot of the group's Paris hubs so that they can be picked up directly by delivery personnel on bikes.

All about containerization
Containerization means preparing the loading of delivery containers upstream of the city, by tour and/or catchment area, before massifying their approach to the city to enable another mode of transport to take over, in multimodal logistics. In this way, at the end of a round, a full container can simply be exchanged for an empty one, with no additional sorting and no loss of time, for maximum efficiency and to ensure the profitability of the model.
In the refrigeration sector, this containerization not only limits transloading, but also limits cold excursions for a guaranteed cold chain.
Mobile hubs for express delivery optimization.
The micro-hub is a viable alternative to the shortage of logistics land that many players are experiencing. Equivalent in size to a parking space, the micro-hub is fixed and uses public space with the support of local authorities.
As for the mobile hubs, they are dropped off as close as possible to the heart of the city each morning by the hauliers, to enable local operators on bicycles to pick up their goods without having to pass through their workshop or carry out any additional sorting.
To optimize your routes for pallets, parcels or various flows, turn to software adapted to cyclelogistics.
