All about pallet delivery
The pallets types
There are disposable and returnable pallets.
Disposable, single-use pallets are another type of pallet known as one-way pallets.
Consigned pallets, on the other hand, are divided into pools that are either open or closed. As they are consigned, companies do not buy these pallets, but rent them from the pallet-pooling manager. Open pools - the best-known of which is EPAL - can be exchanged between operators without necessarily going through the pool manager. Closed pools, on the other hand, such as LPR or SHEP pallets, pass through them between each customer.
Logistic hub
Managing a pallet flow in an urban logistics hub requires a minimum of space. Although pallets are only 1m² in size (on average), handling them with a pallet truck requires an average of 3m² per pallet.
One of the most efficient options is to store pallets high up, which requires the use of a stacker.
As the issue of urban logistics land is becoming more and more important, alternative solutions are being considered: micro-hubs and mobile hubs can be relevant for the management of palletized or containerized flows.
The performance of FlexiModal solutions is particularly evident here, where the BicyLift is both a transport and handling tool, capable of handling a pallet from the first to the last meter. Its lifting technology also enables operators to pick up pallets and containers at the bottom of the carrier's truck, without passing through their ELU and going straight to delivery, thus reducing the impact of load breakage and goods handling.

Using the micro-hub to optimize pallet delivery by bike
The micro-hub is a viable alternative to the shortage of logistics land that many players are experiencing. Equivalent to the size of a parking space, the micro-hub is fixed and uses the public highway with the support of local politicians.
Sogaris, among others, is developing this type of infrastructure with the city of Paris.
As for the mobile-hubs, they are dropped off as close as possible to the heart of the city each morning by the transporters, enabling local operators to pick up their goods by bike, without having to go through their workshop or carry out any additional sorting.
The micro-hub from La Petite Boucle
In Saint Malo, La Petite Boucle set up its micro-hub on a terre plain leased from EDEIS, the Brittany region's manager of the port of Saint Malo.
